The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for managing and overseeing daily activity to ensure proper system operation of servers, enterprise software, storage and virtualization components within the network infrastructure. 

The Senior Systems Engineer troubleshoots a wide range of complex system issues to ensure the security of systems and data and provides second tier computer hardware and software support to users.  The Systems Engineer also accepts ownership for various projects and implements project initiative and assists in the design and planning of infrastructure projects.
 

Duties/Responsibilities:
 

  • Maintains enterprise systems and servers in support of business processing requirements.  
  • Performs upgrades to operating systems and software packages.  
  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels.  
  • Ensures workstation/server and software data integrity and security by evaluating implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.  
  • Facilitates vendors service and system upgrades with project management teams and users to ensure systems availability.  
  • Helps coordinate activities and technology projects between business partners and the IT Operations team.
  • Identifies issues and recommends solutions.  
  • Ensures the proper operation of systems.  Monitors and tunes systems to achieve optimal performance.
  • Ensures server and software data integrity and security.
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of technology projects.
  • Interfaces with vendors, service providers, business partners, project management team and users.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
     

Education/Experience:
 

  • At Minimum an Associate’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent in education and business experience.
  • Requires 1-2 years supporting Enterprise Applications in Amazon Web Services
  • Requires 3-5 years supporting Microsoft Windows Server technologies.
  • Requires 1-2 years supporting VMware virtualization and Cisco UCS or similar technologies
  • Requires 1-2 years supporting Office 365
  • Experience migrating Microsoft Exchange to Office 365 highly desired
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft PowerShell scripting highly desired
  • Strong understanding of automation and DevOps concepts
  • Strong understanding of Enterprise Storage Arrays (e.g. EMC, NetApp)
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g. TCP/IP, VLANs, Trunking, Ether-channel)
  • Experience with automation platforms such as Chef (preferred), Ansible or Puppet
  • Experience with Microsoft Skype for Business and Lync Server preferred
  • Experience with Backup technologies and Disaster Recovery preferred
  • Experience with Citrix XenDesktop and XenApp including VDI preferred
  • Experience with Linux (RHEL, SLES) preferred
  • Current AWS and/or Microsoft certifications preferred
