The Security Operations Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, configuration, administration, operation, and maintenance of both network and security related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research, problem triaging, and issue resolution, and will be well versed in understanding the information technology landscape including security, infrastructure, network, client, server, emerging technology standards, security policies, and associated trends. The Security Operations Engineer will serve as primary Tier II support, and administer and monitor outsourced security functions; will apply expertise in information security and protection systems to eliminate or reduce unauthorized access, disclosure or destruction of data in the care of Jackson Hewitt; identifies security issues; assists in the testing, validation, administration and implementation of security solutions; develops secure operational procedures; contributes to the overall security posture of the organization.


Lead the testing, validation and documentation of strategic and tactical security initiatives.

Identify significant actual and potential cyber security problems, trends, and weaknesses and recommends specific modifications and solutions to reduce information systems security risks.

Coordinate the implementation of security solutions to integrate into existing network environment.
Make recommendations on the appropriate infrastructure protection tools, methods, and technologies.
Develop corresponding administrative procedures.

Review, create and update security procedures and standards, and present them to management for endorsement.
Validate technical or procedural enforcements for pertinent policies within the organization.

Facilitate organizational-wide communications and institute measures to ensure information security awareness and compliance.

Review new and existing systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks, and resolve integration security issues across disciplines.

Proactively monitor security infrastructure and tools to insure reliability and integrity of systems and applications. 
Develop and implement operational response procedures to maximize visibility, maintain stability and prioritize criticality of identified issues.

Investigate and respond rapidly to identified security incidents.
Acquire, analyze, and interpret forensic images, packet captures and logs to accomplish rapid and accurate incident response.
Recommend and implement standards and procedures to facilitate future investigations.

Collaborate with IT Teams to incorporate security best practices into daily workflows and procedures.

Ensures LAN/WAN integrity by evaluating, administering and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions; manage the documentation and administrate needs of a LAN/WAN infrastructure.

Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. 
Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

Develop and implement robust maintenance routines for network infrastructure.

Monitor network utilization and communicate trends, and provide recommendations for improvements.

Plan and implement software updates and patches on various nodes on the network.

Proactively analyzes vulnerabilities in the network and provide a strategy for mitigation.

Work with management to develop strategy for operational SLAs to ensure contractual obligations are met.

Provide Tier II support per request from various constituencies. 
Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
Manage a feedback loop with Tier I support to improve operational efficiency and customer support.

Provide off hours support  as needed via on call program

Bachelor ’s degree with a concentration in Computer Science or Business Administration or equivalent work experience required.

Three(3)+ years’ experience in administration of firewalls, routers, switches, load balancers, and other security-related solutions.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in network protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SSL, DNS, SNMP.

Proficient in network troubleshooting, including packet capture and analysis.

Experience in AWS Security, Architecture and Infrastructure administration a strong plus.

Experience in securing systems (e.g. common operating systems, network equipment).

Strong familiarity in security concepts such as identity management, least privilege, defense in depth and separation of duties.

Experience in security technologies such as IPS, VPNs, Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware, D/DoS and vulnerability management.

Working knowledge of common web architectures and related security risks.

Working knowledge of large scale networks including architecture and security risks.

Working knowledge of Windows based operating systems.

Working knowledge of scripting languages (Python or Perl preferred).

Familiarity with incident response and forensic investigation.

Experience writing technical specifications and operational documentation.
