Job Description

The Application Developer Tax Development - State is a key member of the Jackson Hewitt Tax Development Team. This position designs and develops tax content and calculations for IRS and state tax agency forms to enable Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Inc. to deliver quality technology solutions to the business.

  • Develops cost-effective information technology solutions by creating new, and modifying existing, tax software applications
  • Researches and analyzes requirements and existing business processes to formulate a design and implement tax law changes
  • Codes, tests, and debugs using Jackson Hewitt development tools and proprietary software
  • Analyzes and identifies product discrepancies and recommends solutions
  • Under guidance, complete assignments and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Gain hands-on knowledge of existing in-house tool sets

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Computer Science, Business-related degree, or equivalent
  • 2+ years' experience in tax preparation, accounting, or related discipline
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Access
  • Ability to use online tax research software (i.e., RIA, CCH)
  • VB / VBA a plus
  • Ability to gain proficiency with the application development processes and platform used by Jackson Hewitt to develop software solutions
  • Requires strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills to work effectively in a team environment
  • Enrolled Agent or CPA desirable
